To the Members of the United States Congress:

The American people deserve a government that upholds and defends the Constitution, not one that ignores its erosion. Yet, we have watched, with growing frustration, as silence from both sides of the political aisle has allowed the highest office in our land to trample on the very foundation of our democracy.

The Constitution, the sacred document that defines and protects our freedoms, has been treated as an inconvenience rather than the supreme law of the land. And far too many in Congress have chosen complacency over courage.

Regardless of party affiliation, every member of Congress swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. That oath does not come with a partisan exception. It does not allow for selective enforcement when a president repeatedly disregards constitutional limits, attacks the judiciary, undermines the free press, and threatens the integrity of our elections. Yet, rather than standing up to these egregious violations, too many lawmakers have remained silent, complicit in their inaction.

This silence is a betrayal. It tells the American people that party loyalty takes precedence over national duty. It tells future generations that the rule of law can be bent to serve political convenience. And it sets a dangerous precedent—that a president who disregards the Constitution can do so without consequence, so long as enough members of Congress refuse to act.

We all know what the right thing is to do. Had this been any previous president acting this way, impeachment would have been considered and acted upon for the greater good without question. When will enough be enough? Everyone has an opinion and complaint about President Trump's intentions for our country and still, less than a year into his presidency, Trump has done more to erode the rule of law and the Constitution than any of his predecessors in history.

There is a clear and present danger, and he happens to be sitting in the Oval Office. The Presidency is an institution, founded on America's democracy and freedoms. There is a threat to our democracy and freedom, and he sits in the White House. There is an unwritten rule among past presidents that they won’t speak out against a sitting president as a matter of respect.

I say to those who have held the job before—now is not the time for silence. President Biden, Obama, Bush, and Clinton, where are you now?

One more thing, President Obama, you once took the time to write to me a two-page letter responding to an article I wrote entitled America's Democracy and Freedoms. At the time, I was a nobody serving a 30-year sentence in federal prison. I treasure that letter to this very day because of who you are and what you stood for.

Sir, I need you now more than ever. You cannot be silent now. What you didn't know is that before my incarceration, I served in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps. I didn't want any favors from you then, and I don't want any favors from you now. You are a member of an elite club; you were once the President of this country and did your job, with what you had to face, better than any other president alive or deceased—and you did it well. How can you remain silent now because of a so-called rule when Trump is destroying our country?

History will not be kind to those who enable constitutional violations by failing to hold the executive branch accountable. We have seen how unchecked power leads to the erosion of democracy. We have witnessed what happens when leaders prioritize their political survival over the survival of our republic. If the elected representatives of the people do not stand up now, then when?

It is time for Congress to fulfill its duty—not to a president, not to a party, but to the Constitution. Speak out. Take action. Defend the rule of law. Because silence in the face of constitutional violations is not neutrality, it is complicity.

The American people are watching, and history is recording.

My family asked me not to author this article for fear of my safety. I served this country as a soldier and as a Marine for people unable to fight for themselves. I wasn’t afraid then, and I'm not afraid now! I am not afraid! President Trump, you are failing this country! Either you are the president of America or caught up in your own ambition and or vendettas.

You do not deserve this position, nor do you want it, please resign and let us as a people get back to making this country great again! Not what you consider to be great, but the country I know we can be, if you Sir, would just get out of the way. You love Putin so much go live in Russia.

For those who think I’m an angry black man, you’re right! I am angry at the state of the union. A man has taken our country hostage, and no one seems to care!

Trump is a clear and present danger to America!
